Welcome to our new blog! Spring is in the air, fish are jumping!!!
I have been wanting to create a blog for Steep Island for awhile now, and at last here it is! Whether it be whales passing by, dolphins, big fish stories, big weather, arrival of spring, gardens growing, fish jumping…there is always something exciting going on to write about and share with you….
My hope with this blog is to keep you up to date with island news with a bit of a personal touch….fishing updates…fishing regulations updates, (these will be for our area #13 only) , important weather reports and anything else that may be interesting to share with you…I will also share my love of photography and the great photo opportunities I have here! Let me know if you would like to know anything else…..
For those of you who do not know Steep Island you can find us on our web site at: www.steepisland.com
We are a private island resort in Discovery Passage on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. You would find us just off Campbell River and Quadra Island. Myself, Chantal, my husband Jon and our 7 year old son Santos live on and manage the island year round.
Our lodge offers salmon fishing, fly fishing, eco-tours, kayaking and more…. We still have plenty of openings for anyone who would like to book a trip.
At this time we are gearing up for the new season. Gardens are growing, flower baskets being made, decks stained, rails painted, dock upgrading, rooms cleaned and everything ready for opening…always a busy time for us, and the work seems endless. But as the weather gets warmer and warmer and the list gets smaller comes the excitement of a new season and the prospect of some really good fishing….
Here is a link to the fish quotas for our area: below that I copied some of the info for a quick look on salmon.

Chantal’s “First Signs
of Spring” Photos

I will leave you today with one of my favorite photos of this winter. I heard a bit of a rucus outside on our deck, then heard Splash (our chocolate lab) barking, look out the window and there is Franny, (one of our resident eagles) standing on our balcony!

Cheers Chantal
