Freshwater Fly-Fishing

The exquisite natural settings of lakes, rivers and streams on Vancouver Island attract anglers from around the world. Very few places in the world can boast such a rich environment of healthy, free-flowing fresh water. Steelhead are present almost year round with both summer runs and winter runs moving through the local rivers. These fantastic fighters will take on a fly, spoon, or artificial egg pattern, and put on a terrific display, taking long runs and making spectacular jumps. Trout are also present in the local rivers year round, as well as seasonal runs of salmon. Other species such as pinks, chinooks, coho and chums fill the rivers in the fall. The fishing action can be non stop. Fishing Gear included, of course you are welcome to bring your favorite rods.

The flight takes you through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. After a morning of fishing you will be taken to another location, a glacier for example for a catered lunch. Then it is back to an afternoon of fishing where you have the chance to hook the fish of your dreams.

Tyee Fishing (Rowing the Tyee Pool)

From August 1st to September 15th our guests have the opportunity to enjoy a style of fishing unique to Campbell River. Every year a phenomenon occurs. Chinook salmon head back to the Campbell River, but before heading up the river they congregate in the Tyee Pool at the mouth of the Campbell, pairing up and preparing for their final journey up the river. The style for fishing the pool became a tradition and later a club was formed. The Tyee Club was created in 1925. This fishery is designed specifically to fairly catch the big Chinook in the pool. The rules are very strict and apply to everyone who fishes in the pool. An angler must fish only in a row boat using light tackle, artificial lures and plugs in hope of landing a "Tyee", a chinook/King salmon in excess of 30 lbs. If you land one you too can become a part of history and a member of the celebrated "Tyee Club". An incredible experience that can take you back in time and is an absolute must for the enthusiastic angler.
